We started the New Year with an evening of Tibetan food (the photo shows Adrian making Thukpa - Tibetan soup) together with readings by Ivan Cooper from his fascinating book 'Tibet - an accidental pilgrimage'.
Our first TSGY retreat with Lama Lhakpa Yeshe! Thanks to Lama we enjoyed a very inspiring weekend at Hinsley Hall in Leeds. We all so valued the weekend we hope to be able to organise another retreat next Spring. On the 18th November we also put on a talk about Tibetan Buddhism for York Interfaith week. Its been a very busy month, as you can tell, as we also had two Christmas fairs - at All Saints School and the Steiner School. Altogether at both events we wonderfully raised just over £400 - a big thank you to everyone who helped.
Adrian and Rowena gave two talks about their recent trip to Tibet which included a pilgrimage around the sacred Mount Kailash (photo ). They particularly focused on the deep challenges facing Tibet after more than 60 years of Chinese occupation.
We launched a sponsorship scheme to help Tibetans living in exile in Rewalsar in Northern India. This is a community that Lama Lhakpa Yeshe knows very well and through him we heard of several children and adults who would benefit greatly from financial help. We hope we will be able to find enough sponsors! At the moment we need seven.
We took our stall - complete with new Yak wool shawls recently arrived from our Tibetan supplier in Delhi - to the fair and had an enjoyable day there and raised £183 in sales. Later in May we went on our annual visit to Samye Ling Tibetan Buddhist Monastery in Scotland, a particularly special visit as it coincided with the 70th birthday celebrations of Lama Yeshe, the much loved Lama of Samye Ling.
